Write for Rights


We wrote over 140 letters at our Dec. 9th in-person event. Now, you can write letters and/or emails from home and mail the letters out yourself.

Find out how you can write to government officials to pressure them to release people jailed unfairly and encourage them to stop harassing human rights defenders.  (world-wide)

Actions for Write for Rights Sacramento at home can be found below (pictures Don’t forget to let us know which letters you wrote when you finish! (we will add them to our total for this event).


You can:

(1) Write out sample letter with a pen, and mail it (impactful) OR

(2) print out the sample letter, sign, and mail it, AND/OR

(3) email the government official.

  • Postage is required on letters. All the letters in this action go to U.S. addresses.
  • See here for tips on addressing and stamping an envelope.
  • If you have no envelopes or stamps at home, you can request them.

WRITE FOR RIGHTS ON HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

Drop in between 3:00 – 6:00 PM

Place:  Sierra 2 Center, Room 9. 

2791 24th Street, Sacramento (where 24th St meets 4th Ave in Curtis Park)

We will join with thousands of people around the world who are taking part in the world’s largest write-a-thon, Write for Rights.

We will write to government officials to pressure them to release people jailed unfairly and encourage them to stop harassing human rights defenders.  

We will also have opportunities to send cards to let the victims (or their families) know that we are thinking of them!

No prior knowledge or skills is required; all materials and instructions will be supplied including sample letters., info on cases and addresses. Hot drinks and snacks will also be provided at this free event.

You can bring a favorite pen and/or your laptop if you wish (Wi-Fi available).

Feel free to bring friends, relatives, colleagues, teens.
