IMMIGRANT I.C.E. DETAINEES IN NORTHERN CALIFORINIA
Click here to see the video about those still detained
Created by California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice - CCIJ
YUBA COUNTY JAIL ICE DETENTION
Why are immigrants being held at a County Jail? The Yuba County Jail has a contract with ICE to detain immigrants that ICE has taken from their community to await deportation hearings. These are civil charges. COVID outbreaks continue to surge inside the ICE detention facility at Yuba County Jail – where 14 people remain in ICE custody. Detainees have described filthy conditions – including sewage flooding into the unit – and continuing transfers within the facility that is exacerbating the spread of COVID-19.
Advocates are calling to ensure that detention conditions are humane and safe and also calling for every detainee to be released back to their homes to await their deportation hearings from there.
